Developments over recent years have greatly improved the efficiency of oil fired boilers and they can be as efficient as gas central heating systems. OFTEC recommends that oil fired appliances and equipment are serviced at least once a year or as recommended by the manufacturer. During the service the boiler is inspected and cleaned and components replaced as required. Cleaning the boiler also offers the opportunity to see whether parts of the boiler may need replacing and to inspect the combustion chamber.

Gas is the most popular choice for central heating systems in the home and modern gas boilers are very efficient, sometimes exceeding 90% efficiency. Sharp and Howse installs and services modern gas-fired central heating and hot water systems, tests and services gas cookers, fires and other appliances and provides Landlord Gas Safety Certificates. All our engineers comply with the legal requirement to be registered with Gas Safe.

Liquid Petroleum Gas, usually referred to as LPG, is often used where homes are not connected to a mains gas feed. It works in the same way as Natural Gas but is stored in a cylinder or tank. It is a legal requirement that all LPG boiler installations and services are carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Committed to safety

Oil, gas and LPG are all fossil fuels and can emit dangerous carbon monoxide if not serviced regularly. Carbon monoxide is a highly toxic, poisonous gas that is odourless, colourless and tasteless. Because it is so difficult to detect it is really important that any appliance burning these fuels be checked at least annually. Sharp and Howse engineers are qualified to perform the checks needed. Please call us if your appliances have not been checked or require a service.

We are really committed to your safety so if you don’t already have CO detectors fitted we will install one for you free of charge if we supply and install your new boiler.
